I just got some good news. Make that GREAT news. I can’t even say what that news it at the moment (sworn to secrecy, but I’m DEFINITELY not pregnant or engaged or anything like that!!). Actually the news is not really about me, but I do get some great benefits from it.
I’m just reflecting (as I dance, laugh and squeal all around the house) how uplifting it is to get good news. When we have CFS often it’s just one step in front of the other, one not-so-awesome day after another. If we have an “OK” day we almost think we’ve won the lottery. I’m actually a step up from those horrible days at the moment, so I’m already thankful for that. BUT because of the news I just got from a friend, I’m on cloud nine. That doesn’t happen too often in adulthood – or not as often as I’d like anyway.
But maybe I appreciate things just that little bit more than I did in my earlier years. Maybe, having lived the everyday drudgery of CFS and other tough stuff for so many years, I’ve come to appreciate the little things a lot more. My cuppa at the end of my day, my hot bath, music, nature – all simple, but all things that brighten my day.
Friends and family are my mainstays and I treasure my time spent with them, but in everyday life we spend a lot of our time alone and we don’t get a great deal of excitement really. In a way I don’t think we’d cope if we DID get excitement all the time – and I’m guessing it wouldn’t be so exciting because it would just become everyday. Hard to please us human beings aren’t we?!
We need the dark in life to appreciate the light, and I reckon I’ve had my fair share of dark and I’m sure you have too. But today I’m dancing in the light with the news I just received. I feel uplifted, motivated and overjoyed. A baby hasn’t been born, no baby is expected by anyone, nobody I know is getting married, and nothing life-changing has really happened, but I just wanted to share my excitement with you anyway.
I promise I’ll come back and edit this in a few days to let you know WHAT it is, but for now I suppose I just wanted to let you know that despite illness, pain and all the other trials and tribulations in life, there are still shining moments to be had.
Let me know what yours is today, even if it’s only a tiny one.
Keep Smiling 🙂
Louise
(PS. The news I got at that time was that one of my dearest friends in the world, who lives in Canada, but was an exchange student at my school during our final year of secondary school, had just got a job that would bring her to Melbourne (1 hour away!) for 5-8 weeks last year. Sadly, the company she works for sold the part of the business that she worked in ONE WEEK prior to her arrival in Australia – to be her first visit since leaving 23 years ago! It’s been 12 years since I last saw her in Canada. We were, not surprisingly, quite devastated when this happened, but we also know that much worse things can happen and that one day soon we will see each other again – somehow, someway!)
