Chronic illness and pain wears you out mentally, physically and spiritually.
Nurture yourself through the pain, fatigue, nausea, loneliness and sadness.
The ongoing constant nature of a chronic condition takes its toll on even the most positive and optimistic of us.
So sometimes we just have to ease up on ourselves and allow the tears to flow.
Have a good cry.
It helps to set your emotions free every now and then.
Let yourself give in and feel good and sorry for yourself.
It is hard.
It does take strength to keep going.
It’s not fun.
And it is unfair.
Punch a pillow as well if that helps (and if you have the strength!).
Then after you’ve let the feelings out and you’re spent, pick yourself up and get on with it … but do it gently.
Nurturing Your Mind, Body & Spirit
Take yourself off for a hot bath or shower, curl up in front of a good comedy show or do whatever works for you when you need some nurturing.
For me it’s the hot bath daily no matter what the weather.
It always helps the pain of the headaches and it usually helps the fatigue as well.
If nothing else it feels like a lovely big warm hug that soothes my body, mind and spirit, and gives me the boost I need to get me through the rest of the day.
Most of the time I soldier on through the pain and fatigue, but it doesn’t hurt to occasionally admit I’m a bit over it.
And tomorrow is always a whole new day!
I’ll leave you with the beautiful wisdom of the Desiderata –
“Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence …. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars: you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should”.
Keep Smiling
